Courtney Jones Mitchell
Courtney Jones Mitchell grew up in Mocksville, North Carolina and graduated from the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill in 2001 with a degree in journalism and a minor in creative writing. She graduated from the Hollins College Masters Program in Writing in 2002. Her stories have appeared in Best New American Voices, Carolina Quarterly, News & Observer and Carrboro Free Press. Her story "Everywhere's Safe in this World" was a finalist for the Winter 2009 short-story contest for Narrative magazine. Her most recent work, "How to Roll" is included in Marianne Gingher's Long Story Short: Flash Fiction by Sixty-Five of North Carolina's Finest Writers, expected from UNC Press this fall. She works as a web writer and copy editor in the Office of University Relations at UNC-Chapel Hill. She lives in Chapel Hill with her husband and is working on a novel.
