Lee Smith photoLee Smith is the author of 15 works of fiction including Oral History, Fair and Tender Ladies, and her recent On Agate Hill. Her novel The Last Girls was a 2002 New York Times bestseller as well as winner of the Southern Book Critics Circle Award. Her stories, along with those of Jill McCorkle, are the basis of the 1998 theatrical production Good Ol’ Girls, which also includes songs written by Nashville songwriters Matraca Berg and Marshall ChapmanGood Ol' Girls continues to be staged by regional repertory companies.  A retired professor of English at North Carolina State University, she has received many awards including the North Carolina Award for Literature and an Academy Award in Fiction from the American Academy of Arts and Letters. Her forthcoming collection of new and selected stories, Mrs. Darcy and the Blue-Eyed Stranger, will be published in March 2010.
