L.G. Walker PhotoDr. L.G. Walker, Jr. graduated from the School of Medicine of the University of Alabama in 1956, interned at University of Virginia, and completed his residency at Emory University. He served in the U.S. Navy as a medical officer and later on the faculty of Emory University School of Medicine as assistant professor of surgery and assistant chief of surgery, Atlanta Veterans Administration Hospital. He retired in 1997 as chairman of the Department of General Surgery and residency program director, Carolinas Medical Center, Charlotte, and as Clinical Professor of Surgery, Emeritus, University of North Carolina, Chapel Hill.  He has a special interest in the history of medicine and surgery. His publications include both literary and scientific topics, most recently, Dr. Henry R. Porter: the Surgeon Who Survived Little Bighorn.
